Bicycle Boost for Alliance
 | | The Cummins volunteer team poses in front of a completed bike rack | For many residents at the Alliance Apartments, bicycles are the main mode of transportation and key to the ability to get to and from work. Despite the best intentions to offer a place for residents to keep their bikes safe from the Minnesota elements, the bike storage room at Alliance had been disorganized and underutilized for many years with a variety of bikes and bike parts strewn around the room.
Thanks to an engineering team from Cummins Power Generation a solution was devised. Dan Gillette led the volunteer team with a visit to the Alliance Apartments to develop a plan. The group then designed, built and installed custom bike racks in the bike room and another closet.
The custom designed system allows residents to easily park and retrieve their bikes from the space. It also allows for residents to lock the bikes to the racks in the room keeping them secure. This kind of collaboration between business and community exemplifies the power of partnership.
Volunteer Program Coordinator Tashia Weisenburger describes the Alliance Project as “a perfect example of how CCHT can use volunteers’ technical skills to improve properties both aesthetically and functionally for our residents.”
Chaos and disorder has been transformed to clean lines and functionality for residents.
