Celebrating a community asset: 1822 Park Avenue Apartments hold grand opening 8/6/2008 3:15 PMFunders, partners and community leaders gathered on August 5 to celebrate the opening of 1822 Park Avenue Apartments in Minneapolis.
More than 50 guests – including Minneapolis Mayor RT Rybak and Minnesota Housing Commissioner Tim Marx – toured the property and viewed the building’s transformation.
What was once a dilapidated, overcrowded building with 400 code violations is now a beautiful home to 18 single adults  | | Mayor RT Rybak | with mental illness.
A community asset "The people who rest their heads on pillows here at night have dignity," said Minneapolis Mayor RT Rybak, recognizing the transformation of the building.
Aeon partners with Oak Grove Care Center to provide residents with holistic support – including an onsite nurse, a fitness room and meal services. 1822  | | Gina Ciganik, Aeon Vice President, Housing Development, with open house guests | Park Avenue Apartments is an innovative model that is designed to promote the overall wellness and the stability of those who call it home.
A role in ending homelessness The homes created in Aeon’s newest property are part of the State’s Plan to End Long-term Homelessness by 2010. The building offers a home to eight individuals who were chronically homeless and 10 others who were at risk of becoming homeless.
"This building is an inspiration to keep working until the job [of ending homelessness] is done," said Commissioner Marx.
