What:
St. Barnabas Apartments, proposed to open in early 2004, will provide independent living opportunities for homeless youth, ages 16-20. Services will be provided on-site, 24-hours a day, to assist youth in achieving their employment, education and self-sufficiency goals. St. Barnabas will also offer 13 affordable housing units for low-wage individuals with income at or below 50% of area median income. Allina Hospitals and Clinics and the Episcopal Diocese of Minnesota are additional collaborators in this development.

Why:
On any given night, there are 945 unaccompanied homeless youth, ages 15-19, in the Twin Cities metro area. There are only 63 temporary shelter beds to meet this need. St. Barnabas will offer 39 youth housing units and provide youth with a nurturing, safe place to live.
