Helping
people and communities thrive
Aeon strives to support successful residency and create thriving communities by
focusing on resident connections, engagement, and stability.
Connecting
residents
Aeon aims to create living environments that foster social networks among
residents. Research has shown that when people are connected, they feel safer
and more satisfied with their living environment. Social networking is
especially critical for newer immigrants, for whom language and cultural
barriers can contribute to social isolation.
Each Aeon property is its own community with unique resident
demographics. To foster useful social networks, property-specific activities are
implemented reflecting the interests and needs of residents. Activities have
included sewing classes, cooking classes, movie nights, barbeques, and more.
Engaging
residents
In addition to supporting connections among residents, Aeon provides targeted
opportunities that nurture resident leadership at properties and in the
community. Opportunities for resident leadership and volunteerism have included
serving on Aeon’s Board of Directors, facilitating monthly resident property
meetings, and planning and implementing activities at Aeon properties. Most
resident volunteers participate in three or more activities throughout the year.
Supporting
stability and success
Some Aeon residents are challenged simply to maintain stable housing. Aeon
constantly works to identify specific barriers that prevent people from
maintaining successful residency and then addresses them through its
partnerships with social services and other organizations.
Residents most at risk of losing their housing are
identified every month through Aeon’s Resident Eviction Prevention Program.
Aeon partners with these residents to obtain the social services they need to
stabilize their lives and retain their housing. Residents are referred to
resources addressing mental health issues, chemical dependency, and more. Aeon
also arranges classes on topics such as employment skills, anger management,
and budgeting.
Some Aeon properties offer integrated, on-site social
services. They include the Alliance Apartments, a partnership with RS Eden, which
provides chemical dependency services. Other examples include the Archdale and
St. Barnabas Apartments for homeless and at risk youth. Both sites partner with
YouthLink, which provides case management and other services to help youth
establish independent lives.
