Wilder Research surveyed homeless people in shelters and on the streets in October. The organization has conducted the survey every three years since 1991. The report includes the following information.
9,200 people are homeless in Minnesota each night;
47 % of homeless adults have been in jail or prison;
27 % have drug or alcohol problems;
1 in 4 homeless men are military veterans;
Percentage of homeless with mental illness-
1994: 20%
1997: 32%
2000: 36%
2003: 47%
2006: 52%
Who are the homeless?
Adult men: 33%
Adult women: 29%
Children with their parents: 35%
Unaccompanied youth: 3%
