A "Let's Grill!" Theme Elates Residents in Hot Summer

Even though this year’s summer is the third hottest on record since the mid-1920s, residents of the Continental continue with their plans to explore the art of cooking.

The cooking class in July featured “Let’s Grill” as one in a series of monthly cooking sessions designed to expose residents to healthy cuisine and cooking ideas from around the world and to help them learn a valuable skill.

Fifteen residents of the Continental participated in this new opportunity and enjoyed the results of their hard work: quesadillas, shish kabobs, grilled vegetables, and an amazing

grilled tropical fruit dessert.

Jonathan Foster, CCHT’s Resident Services VISTA says the “cooking classes are increasingly popular among residents for a simple reason – they know they can learn something useful and meet new friends.” Foster believes some residents will discover that they like cooking and may be urged to pursue a cooking job.

Among the residents who participated in last month's class class were former restaurant cooks and servers. They were delighted to engage and share their talents and skills with fellow residents. “The class was led by a volunteer, Patricia

Kandakai, whose passion lies in cooking and world cuisines,” added Foster.

The theme for the class at the end of August has not been determined, but Foster believes “the class will continue to be popular for residents." Foster says RCS staff is fully prepared to make yet another class an exciting learning experience.
