Is there anything wrong with the current name? Many of us feel connected to the current name and organizational history it represents, but it poses a number of challenges. First, the name Central Community Housing Trust no longer accurately reflects who we are. Second, the CCHT name is difficult to remember, even in acronym form. Third, as an acronym, it is often confused with other organizations. Why the name change? This name change is an investment in the future of our organization. A short, memorable, meaningful name will help us establish relationships in communities across the Twin Cities.

How do you say Aeon? Aeon is pronounced  Ā-on.

What does Aeon mean? Aeon is a form of the word “eon,” which suggests a time period of indefinite length. The word can also describe geologic time. The name reflects the timelessness of our mission, as well our commitment to creating and sustaining long-term community assets. Also, the word’s unique sound and appearance suggest innovation and excellence, which are our trademarks. Are there disadvantages to changing the name? The decision to change the name was not made lightly. The change costs the organization both time and money. However, after significant discussion, it became clear to us that the cost of the change was significantly less than the long-term cost of continuing to use the current name.

When did the change take place? The name changed on October 3, 2007.

How was the process conducted? First, CCHT’s Board of Directors approved the name change plan and process. Next, a Name Selection Task Force was convened to undertake the effort. The team identified criteria for the new name, including trademark availability, and then planned a series of brainstorming sessions to develop ideas. A total of 90 people offered their input during these sessions. The ideas were then sorted by the task force according to the criteria. A few possibilities resulted from this process. Aeon was selected because it met the name change criteria.

What were the criteria used to select a new name? There were a number of criteria used, among them that the name be short, memorable, appealing to key stakeholders and available for trademark.

Is this part of a larger change at the organization? No. Though our name and logo are changing, our mission, reputation and work remain the same.

What is the “Homes for Generations” tagline about? Homes for Generations is the phrase that accompanies our new name and logo. It speaks to our commitment to create life-cycle housing that’s suitable for people at every age and stage of life. It also speaks to the enduring quality of our homes—homes that will last for generations

How was the new logo developed? Once the new name was selected, CCHT worked with design firmRubin Cordaro to create a graphic identity that expressed the organization’s personality and reputation. The tree and home speak to the essence of our mission—rootedness, strength, shelter, nurturing and home. The green and brick red provide an earthy and warm palette for our communications.
