Ripley's Rebirth
Midwest Home

September, 2005

Another birth at Martha G. Ripley Maternity Hospital in north Minneapolis is underway. The historic hospital and two additional buildings on the 1.9-acre site are being returned to their original glory, thanks to a $60,000 grant from HGTV, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and several other public and private funding sources. The hospital, which cared for any woman, no matter her race, religion, or marital status, throughout the first half of the twentieth century, will be renovated and converted to affordable housing by next summer. Considerable gardens, walking paths, play areas, and green spaces will be constructed as well. Expect to see Ripley hospital in an ad campaign on HGTV sometime this fall, and possibly featured later on the network's show, "Restore America."
