The Jourdain Named 2005's Best Community Impact Project by Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal April 21, 2006

In the 1950s, a middle-aged Native American woman named Winnie Jourdain bought a Minneapolis home at the intersection of Franklin and Portland avenues, in what is now known at the Phillips neighborhood.
Short and feisty, Jourdain was a philanthropist at heart. She opened her house to homeless people, providing them with food, shelter and hope to turn their lives around. She died in late 2001 at age 101.
Now, on that very street corner, a new mixed-use, mixed-income development is helping turn around a neighborhood steadily winning its fight against crime and poverty.
The project's name: The Jourdain.
